Aboltina underlined that it often easier for smaller countries to be heard "because they speak with one voice."
The speaker rated relations between Latvia and Denmark as "good and stable", vowing that Latvia will continue the existing cooperation policy.
Ambassador Carlsen congratulated Aboltina on recently assuming speaker's duties. He said that Denmark is interested in developing cooperation at the parliamentary level, and boosting ties in the arts, tourism and economic sectors. He also opined that the results of the recent general election in Latvia prove that the public for the most part has accepted the necessity for economic reform and supports the course set by the previous government.
Aboltina told Carlsen that her priority as speaker will be to revive Saeima's prestige in the community.
Saeima's priority at this time, she said, is work on the 2011 national budget. The ambassador informed that the Danish parliament's finance committee could visit Latvia at the beginning of next year to become more acquainted with Latvia's experience in combating the economic crisis.
