On November 18 was marked Latvia's anniversary of proclamation of its independence. This birthday of Latvia was celebrated with a lot of different activities - a Military Parade in the morning, putting flowers at the Monument of Freedom, a Tourch Procession through the Riga Old Town gathering thousands of young people and families with children and other cultural events. President Andris Berzins, in his keynote address from the Freedom Monument pointed out everyone to remember that strength lies in numbers, that Latvia awaits everyone of its own to return home. He declared that "Mother Latvia waits for us to return, as only together as one can we build a strong Latvia." The address came ahead of the joint rendition of the national anthem and the fireworks display, capping this year's Independence Day.
